The Garden of Eden

Now that the world is made
According to God’s plan
Why not let’s take a trip
Through this beautiful land.

Here’s a garden fresh and new –
A place of much, much fame.
Here’s the birthplace of all mankind
And Eden is its name.

As we step inside to look around
The first thing that we see
Is a man that God called Adam.
He was much like you and me.

In God’s own image Adam was made –
He was the very first man.
He was patterned after God Himself
And made by God’s own hand.

As we travel farther along
What else do we see?
Why there’s mountains, rivers, valleys,
And oh yes, a very special tree.

The Tree of Knowledge was its name
And its beauty was not hidden.
Adam was allowed to look at it
But to eat its fruit was forbidden.

Of all the jobs that Adam did,
He did one very, very well.
He named every single animal
From the antelope to the whale.

Rabbits were called rabbits
And birds were called birds.
He named every creature
With such appropriate words.

One day Adam looked around
And to his surprise he saw
That every animal had a mate
Almost as if it were law.

This made Adam very sad,
His joy just disappeared.
Here he was without a mate
And loneliness now he feared.

When God saw Adam in such a state
He devised a wonderful plan.
He decided right then and there
To make woman to go with man.

He caused Adam to fall asleep
So deep as not to wake.
Then he gently reached inside
Because a rib he did take.

So there lay Adam still asleep,
And this he’d ne’er believe –
From his missing rib God made
A woman He named Eve.

Adam was happy and so was Eve –
What a lucky pair,
To live in a wonderful place like this –
Nothing but happiness there.

Then one day Evil came
In the form of a snake.
His name was Satan, a sinful one
And problems he did make.

He tempted Eve up in a tree
To do what she should not.
Forbidden fruit she then did eat
And trouble’s what she got.

She told Adam to take a bite
And yes that’s what he did.
And then they knew they both had sinned
And quickly from God they hid.

So mad was God on that day
He decided to punish them.
So out of the garden He made them go
For not obeying Him.

Poor Adam, poor Eve, what a shame –
Now they’re all alone.
Happiness was once all theirs
But for sin it’s now all gone.

And what about God, how’d He feel –
Of course He was so sad.
It hurt Him too to punish them
For doing the wrong they had.

From that day on, God promised us
That He would save mankind
And we should thank Him everyday
That He did not change His mind.

He sent His son, Jesus Chris
Who died up on the cross.
He loved Him yes, but loves us too
And for this He suffered the loss.

So when we sin remember this –
Forgiveness has a price,
But it was paid long ago
On a cross by Jesus Christ.

The Creation Story PopUp

In the beginning, long time ago,
There were no places to visit and no one to know.
God was alone in the darkness of space –
No one to talk to in the whole empty place.
Then all of a sudden, He came up with a plan
And things started happening when He raised His hand.

DAY ONE:
He took half of the darkness and turned it into life.
This He called Day, the other half was night.

DAY TWO:
He looked at the day that was fresh and new
And decided He needed a sky that was blue.

DAY THREE:
Next thing that happened for goodness sakes
He put water in the oceans, rivers and lakes.
Later that day, without one seed to sew,
He caused all the grass, trees and plants to grow.

DAY FOUR:
On the next day He hung all the stars in place
Along with the sun and moon to fill up more space.

DAY FIVE:
Still not satisfied because something was bare
He put fish in the waters and birds in the air.

DAY SIX:
On day number six, all the animals came,
Some little, some big, some wild, some tame.
Everything was finished all according to plan,
But wait – something’s missing – where s man?
So God took some clay, molded it in His hand
And there was Adam to enjoy this new land.

DAY SEVEN:
So God looked at His creation and saw it was good,
And He rested on the Sabbath day just like we all should.

Juggling Jim

***View the video on how to juggle.  Instead of learning with balls, I would suggest using scarves.  You can buy very light weight and see through material at Walmart.  According to the story you'll need one red, one yellow and one blue one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8QfqkSPxmo

Once upon a time not too long ago, there was a happy go lucky man named Jim (or Jane if a lady).  Jim just roamed around going from place to place without too much direction in his life.  Then one day he met a juggler who asked him if he could juggle.  “Why no I can’t,” answered Jim.  The juggler asked him if he would like to learn and of course Jim said, “Yes.”  So the juggler gave him a set of scarves and a little book.  (Show the book.)  Its title was Everything You Need to Know About Juggling.”  (I just made it out of a few small pieces of folded paper that looked like a small book.  The title was written with a marker on the front.)  So Jim took the book and read it and he found it to be very interesting.  He discovered three very important things about juggling.

First, you begin by tossing one scarf from one hand to the other in an arch shape without looking at your hands.  Instead you always look at the top of the arch.

Secondly, you put one scarf in both hands.  Throw up one scarf and once it gets to its highest position in the arch you throw up the second scarf under it while making an X with your arms.

Thirdly, you hold two scarves in one hand.  When you begin to juggle you have to raise one finger releasing only one scarf while holding the other.  Then you proceed to juggle, juggle and juggle like this.  (Demonstrate exactly how easy it is done.)  Well our story continues with Jim going around the country juggling.  In fact, he juggled so much that he became known as Juggling Jim (or Jane).
Then one day a preacher came along while Jim was doing and he was very impressed.  “So how did you learn to juggle,” the preacher asked.  “Learned it from a little book,” Jim offered.  Then the preacher asked Jim if he had ever heard of a man named Jesus Christ and he answered, “No.”  So the preacher witnessed to Jim and before he left him he gave him a little book to read.  Guess what the title of the book was?  That’s right it was a Bible.  (Show them a little New Testament.)  So Jim took the book and read it and he found it to be very interesting.  He discovered three very important things.

First, he learned that he was a sinner on his way to an awful place called hell.

Secondly, he learned that there was a man named Jesus, God’s only Son, who bled and died on an old rugged cross to save Jim from his sins.

Thirdly, he discovered that if he confessed and repented of his sins and asked Jesus into his heart and soul as Lord and Savior, Jesus would forgive him.  Jesus would cleanse him from all his sins.  And Jesus would become his closest and dearest friend who would be with him through the highs and lows (juggle high and low) of life and would someday take him to his home in heaven for all eternity.

Wow what a change there was in his life.  Now he not only went around juggling but he used it as a means of telling others about Jesus Christ.  How?  Well he only juggled with three colors which were red, yellow and blue.  One day someone asked him, “Hey Jim, why do you only use those three colors?” to which he replied, “The red represents the blood of Jesus Christ who saved me from my sins.  The yellow reminds me never to be yellow or afraid to share the good news with others and the blue is what I am at the end of the day if I haven’t told someone about Christ.”

Do you know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior?  If not you could right here, right now.  All you’ve got to do is ask Him into your heart.  He’s waiting for an invitation.  LET’S PRAY!!!!

Newspaper Story

I first saw this newspaper folding trick on TV when I was a child.  I’ve been using it and the story that came with it ever since.  But now I add my own personal ending to make it fit in a children’s sermon.  View the video below in order to learn how to fold and tear the newspaper that's used in the story.
https://youtu.be/pDYJeLB4Et8

(Begin folding the fireman’s hat.)  Once upon a time there was a little boy who was walking along the beach with his father.  As they walked his father decided to ask his son about what he wanted to be when he grew up.  “So what do you want to be when you grow up son?” his father asked.  After much thought the little boy said, “I want to be a fireman and wear this kind of hat.”  (Show the hat.)  His father replied, “Oh man that sounds like a lot of fun riding on the firetrucks speeding on their way to a fire and using the water hoses to put out the fire…..But wait a minute.  That could be a lot of work keeping the firetrucks clean, walking up and down those ladders and not to mention the possibility of getting burned in the fire.”  (Begin folding sailor’s hat.)  After a few moments of silence the little boy said, “Well daddy I don’t think I want to be a fireman after all.”  They continued to walk along the beach.
Then the little boy broke the silence when he said, “Daddy I know now what I want to be.  I want to be a sailor and I would wear this kind of hat.”  (Show sailor’s hat.)  “A sailor huh?” asked his father.  “Now that sounds like a lot of fun.  Riding on those big ships and seeing the world…now that’s what I call fun….But there is the possibility that you might get sea sick and as I recall, you can’t swim.  What would you do if the boat sank?” asked his father.  (Begin folding Robin Hood’s hat.)  After much thought the little boy said, “I don’t think I want to be a sailor either.”  They continued to walk along the beach.

Then the little boy announced for the third time what he wanted to be.  He said to his father, “I know now what I want to be and this one is for real.  I want to be Robin Hook and wear this kind of hat. (Show Robin Hood’s hat.)   I’d steal from the rich and give to the poor.”  “Now you’re talking son, that would be awesome to live in the woods, ride horses and help the poor,” his father replied, “but I bet it can get cold and wet living in the woods.  And of course you’d be sleeping on the ground so you wouldn’t have you nice comfortable bed.  And of yeah, stealing is stealing no matter if you give it to the poor or not.  If you get caught you will get put in jail.”  For the third and final time the little boy said, “Well I don’t want to do that either.”  They continued to walk along the beach.
A few minutes later they both looked out on the ocean where they saw a boat.  (Pull apart the two paper edges in order to reveal a boat.)  On board the boat were another father and son.  They were enjoying sailing when all of a sudden there was a huge wave that hit one end of the boat and tore it completely off.  (Tear off one end of the boat.)  As you can imagine the boat then began to sink.  Then out of nowhere there appeared a huge rock.  The boat hit it and it tore off the other end of the boat. (Tear off the other end of the boat.)   Now the boat was sinking twice as fast.  But that wasn’t all.  Then a bolt of lightning came from the sky, hit the top of the boat and tore it completely off. (Tear off the very top of the boat.)  Well all the people on shore saw what had happened so they got into their boats to see if they might help save the lives of the man and his son.  Little did they know that the boy could not swim.  So his father was holding him up out of the water so he wouldn’t drown.  Just as the rescue boats arrived they pulled the boy out of the water at the exact same time when his father went under the water.  He saved his son from drowning and then drowned himself.  They searched the water for a couple of hours but all they found was his shirt.  (Open the paper to reveal a Tshirt.)

The father loved his son so much that he actually died while saving his life.  That has to be the ultimate love when someone gives his own life for someone else.  Well, boys and girls did you know that there is someone who died for you?  His name is Jesus Christ and no He didn’t drown in the ocean but he died on an old wooden cross instead.  (Open up the shirt to reveal a cross.)  He shed His blood for you and for me so that our sins might be forgiven and so that we might be able to spend eternity in heaven with Him and His Heavenly Father.  If you don’t know Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, why don’t you invite Him into your heart today, right here, right now?  You’ll be glad you did.  LET’S PRAY!!!

Jesus Won't Let You Down

View the video showing how to do this trick

This trick takes some gimmicking beforehand.  Find a handkerchief that’s either solid red or one that is red and white with mostly red.  If you can’t find a red one, buy a small piece of solid red cloth and cut it into the size of a handkerchief.  This next step is very important.  When hemming the cloth, place two beads inside the hem that are close enough for you to get your thumb between them.  Attach the beads with thread so that they won't move or slide around.  Run the thread inside the holes of each bead and secure them to the hem so that they won’t move.

Next take a Solo cup and decorate it so that it’s covered with all kinds of glitter, jewels, sparkles, etc.  Don’t use a red cup though.  Attach your glittery items with either glue or hot glue.  They need to be permanently attached.  Write the word "SINS" upside down with a black marker at the opening of the cup.  Why upside down?  So that once you place it on the book everyone will be able to read it.

Finally take a white Styrofoam cup and with a red marker, draw a cross and write the name Jesus inside it.  This should be a very plain cup with nothing else one it.  This should be legible when the cup is sitting upright not upside down.

Good morning boys and girls.  Today I have a story for you involving two different cups.  This Solo cup that has been highly decorated and this plain white Styrofoam cup.  (Turn it so that the cross with Jesus on it is at the back for now.) Now I want you to look at them for a few seconds and tell me which one you like the best.  Most people will say they like this one the best and who can tell me why?  That’s right because it is so pretty with its glitter and jewels and things.  But what about this one?  Yes it’s very plain and there’s nothing exciting looking about it is there?

OK I have a book here and this book is going to represent your life.  This decorated cup is going to represent Satan while this white cup is going to represent whom?  Yes, of course, it represents Jesus.  (Turn it around so they can now see the cross.)  We’re going to see which one will never let you down in your entire life.  Will it be Satan or Jesus?  Well let’s try a little experiment and see.  I’m going to put the Satan cup here on the book that represents your life and turn it upside down.  But before I do that who can tell me why I have the Satan cup all decorated?  I have the Satan cup decorated because this is one way that he leads us astray or entices us to commit sin.  He doesn’t want us to see sins as the bad things that they are but rather as something exciting, interesting and fun.  Then once we take part in sinful things we tend to get caught in it like being caught in a spider’s web and can’t escape.  We’re trapped and now the bright colored exciting things that looked so wonderful have all changed to dark and scary sinful things.  So what about Satan?  Is he going to always be there with us or is he going to let us down?  Well I’m afraid that when things in our life go from bad to worse and our whole world and life turn upside down Satan just disappears and leaves us on our own.  (Turn the book on which the Satan cup is sitting upside down and it quickly falls to the floor.)  That’s just like Satan, leaving us now that he has us right where he wants us, trapped in our sins forever.

So now let’s take a look at Jesus.  Is He going to drop us like a hot potato when our world and life turn upside down?  Will He leave us like Satan did?  Well He won’t if we invite and accept Him into our heart and soul as our Lord and Savior.  (Start to wrap the book with the red cloth making sure the hem with the hidden beads inside are at the edge of the book closest to you.  Feel for the two beads and place the rim of the cup inside the space between the two beads.  Then place your thumb inside the same space which now should be a snug fit.  This pressure being applied to the rim of the cup from the bead on the inside of the rim and your thumb on the outside will prevent the cup from falling off the book.  Act as naturally as possible so that it doesn’t appear that you are searching for the beads and placing the cup between them.)

Because when you accept Jesus as your personal Savior, He covers you with His blood that He shed for you on the cross.  It’s this blood that cleanses us from our sin and sets us free from the web of sins that Satan snared us with.  Jesus actually breaks us free from those sins that once bound us.  Now we are free forever being transformed into a new creature in Christ.  And what about Jesus?  (Turn the book upside down leaving the cup attached to it.)  As our Lord and Savior, Jesus will never leave us alone through good or bad times because He now resides inside our heart and soul.  He’ll be with us till the end of our life and then will take us home to heaven to live for all eternity with Him and His Father, God.  Thank you Jesus!!!!!!!  LET’S PRAY!

Get All Cleaned Up (Restoration)

***Thiss requires you making a couple of purchases of transparent clear and red celophane.  You can find this at Hobby Lobby.  It's used to decorate baskets or to wrap flowers.  This is very thin and you'll most likely need to use at least two if not three pieces of the red.
Draw Jake's picture on a piece of poster or mat board.  Size is up to you.  Then cut another piece of poster board the same size as Jake's portrait.  But cut out the inside leaving only a border that does not cover any of Jake once it is placed on top of it.  It serves as a frame of sorts.  Take a piece of clear celophane and tape it to the back of the border.  On top of this smear paint or ink to represent dirty marks on his face.

Get a third piece of poster board the same size as the other two.  Draw Jake's whole body of this piece with a black border.  Using a red or pink pastel, (try them first to see which color works best), write sins all over his body such as lying, cheating, stealing, drinking, drugs, etc.  Now your fourth piece of poster board serves as another border to hold the clear red celophane.  Cut the piece or pieces if not dark enougth to the back.  Also with a black marker draw a SMILE that fits perfectly over his face.  Finally when the red celophane is placed on top of the sinful Jake, the sins disappear.  You'll have to experiment here with the color of pastel and the transpaarency of the red celophane.  Hobby Lobby sells it as decoration for flowers and baskets but it's very thin so you might have to use two, three or more layers before it makes the sins disappear.

Once upon a time there was a little boy named, well let’s call him Jake.  (Show his clean picture.)  Jake loved to play and when he played he played hard.  When he went out first thing in the morning he looked like this but when he came in right before dark he looked like this.  (Show his dirty picture.)

Well one day Jake had been playing for hours when he noticed that his father was packing some things in his truck.  “Where you going dad?” he hollered.  “Going to run in to town to pick up a few things” his father answered.  “Well hey, I want to go with you,” Jake replied.  “Oh no, hold on a minute.  You can’t go into town looking like that – all dirty.”  “But dad I want to go with you, please.”  “Well I figured you would want to go so I’ve come up with a plan.  I’ve already drawn a hot bath for you and got your clean clothes laid out on your bed.  All you got to do is say yes, get all cleaned up and then you can go with me to town,” his dad explained.  “Oh boy I’ll be back in a few minutes,” Jake responded as he flew into the house.  It was only a matter of fifteen minutes or so before he was back in the yard standing beside the truck.  “Come on dad, I’m ready to go” he yelled to his father.  (Show clean picture again.)
Then his father did exactly what he had promised.  After Jake got all cleaned up they went to town and had the time of their lives.

Now let’s move forward about 20 years or so.  Let’s take a look at Jake now.  Wow, what a mess. (Show Jake’s sinful picture.)

He’s gotten dirty again but this time it’s with sin and not mud.  Well one day Jake was walking by a church so he decided to go in.  It had been years and years since he had stepped foot in a church although his parents were faithful in taking him when he was still at home.  He opened the door and to his surprise there stood the preacher as if he had been waiting for him.  He asked him to come on in and they sat down to talk.  He told the preacher all about the sins he had committed and how messed up his life had become.  Then the preacher asked him if he wanted to change so that someday he would go to Heaven.  Jake said yes and that he wanted to go now.  But the preacher interrupted him and said but you can’t go like this dirty with your sins.  Sins, by the way are those things that we do that hurt and displease God.  The preacher continued and said, “First you’ve got to get cleaned up.”  “But how do I do that?” Jake asked.  “Well it just so happens that God the Father has come up with a plan.  He sent His only Son to die a cruel death on an old rugged cross and shed His blood for you and all other sinners throughout the whole world.  “So what do I do to get cleaned up of all this ugly sin?” Jake asked.  “Just pray to God to forgive you, repent of your sins and ask His Son Jesus to come into your heart and soul as Lord and Savior.  Then and only then will the blood of Christ be applied and you’ll be cleansed.  Why you’ll be so clean that you’ll become a new creature in Christ.  It’s that simple.”  Then Jake knelt at the altar and did as the preacher had said.  And guess what?  Once that blood of Jesus was applied to his heart and soul a miracle took place.  He was cleansed of all of his sins like this.  (Place the red film over the portrait of Jake with sins and magically all his sins disappear.)

Boys and girls, if you feel that Jesus is wanting you to let Him come into your heart as Lord and Savior and clean you of your sin, why not invite Him in today?  Then talk with your parents and your preacher about your decision.  LET’S PRAY!
